From the Pro ~ September 2026

Dear Members,

Well, August is here and now it’s gone. I looked back at my last newsletter and said the exact same thing about July! It’s hard to believe that just one month ago we were all celebrating the 80s and having a grand old time at the Member-Member. As with the Invitational, the weather played a factor, but we were able to get the event in and crown our new overall champions, Dave Smail and Stan Treskovich. August was certainly a busy month, which is probably why it went by so quickly. Once we finished the Member-Member, we were right into the Club Championship.

It was another great two days, with Mario Battaglia claiming his second Club Championship and Steph Knupp claiming her second as well. Both were wire-to-wire victories, congratulations to Mario and Steph!

Rain sure affected us throughout the month of August, but looking ahead, the weather is shaping up nicely for the start of September and, hopefully, all of Fall. I say that because we’re certainly not done having fun with our events, and of course, we still have plenty of golf to play!

September brings our 5-Person Scramble, which once again sold out. That event comes just in time for our annual Green Aerification, scheduled for Tuesday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 9. As usual, we expect the greens to fully heal within about two weeks.

And remember, there is a silver lining to aerification, it’s easier to make putts on sandy greens, and the scores are always lower! At least that’s what we’re going with!

We’ll also hold Sean & Mike’s Break 50 Challenge, where teams will compete to break 50 and take down the tag-team duo of Sean & Mike! No one was successful last year, so the question is: Can you beat us this year?

The best part of the Break 50 Challenge is that all proceeds benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation, an organization Ligonier Country Club has proudly supported for 18 years. There are only a handful of clubs in the United States that have supported Folds of Honor longer than Ligonier, and we’re extremely proud of that tradition.

Don’t forget that we’ll also be holding our Steelers Tailgate Party, where we’ll cheer on the Steelers, enjoy some great food and fun, and give away free tickets to a Steelers game this year! We’ll only be taking 9 teams, so if you’re interested, be sure to sign up soon. The wait list seems to be becoming a common theme for our events this year, which is a great problem to have!

And speaking of the Steelers, be sure to take a look below in the newsletter. The Golf Shop is bringing back its Survivor Pool and introducing our new NFL Draft Challenge. Both should add a little extra fun to your football season!

Did we say we weren’t done yet with the golf season?

We always like to keep you busy, keep you on your toes, and, most importantly, keep you having fun at Ligonier Country Club. Stay tuned for October; we aren’t done just yet!

See you on the course!

Survivor Pool

Back for a 3rd year, The Golf Shop will have a different take on its fantasy pools, this one, a NFL Survivor Pool!

What is a Survivor Pool you say? Each person will select an NFL Team each week who they think will win. If your teams wins, you move onto the next week, but if they lose, you are out.

YOU CAN ONLY SELECT A TEAM ONCE

Example: If you choose the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 1, you cannot choose them for the rest of the season.

Entry Fee- $25 (Member Account or CASH)

*If you lose in Week 1, 2 or 3, you may buy back in for $40.

After week 4, you cannot buy in.

Payout– The last person standing will win the entire pot. (Half Cash, Half Golf Shop Credit)

All participants must email Sean (sean@ligoniercountryclub.com) their pick each week before the team’s game time.

Example for Week 1: If you want the Patriots or Seahawks in week 1, you must email Sean before 8:20 PM on Wednesday, September 9.

A spreadsheet will be emailed each week with all participants’ picks.

Thank you, choose wisely and good luck!

Score Posting- GHIN

Score posting began on Wednesday, April 1

  • You may post scores on the GHIN APP or leave your scorecard with the Golf Shop
  • ALL scores (9 or 18) must be posted the day you play due to the PCC Calculation
  • You CANNOT post a score if you have played by yourself
  • During aerification, scores should still be posted per the USGA
  • See below for example’s on how to post scores if you do not finish an entire round.
  • 13 or More Holes:

When you play 13 or more holes, you must post an 18-hole score, even if you don’t complete all 18 holes.

  • Holes Not Played: For the holes you didn’t play, you’ll score them as “par plus” your course handicap strokes.
  • Example: If you play 14 holes and have a course handicap of 10, you’d score the remaining 4 holes as par plus 1 stroke each (because your course handicap is 10, and you’re entitled to 1 stroke per hole).

7 to 12 Holes:

If you play between 7 and 12 holes, you must post a 9-hole score.

Holes Not Played: You’ll only post scores for the 9 holes you played, and the remaining holes are disregarded for handicap purpose

Lightning Policy

We have upgraded our Lightning Detection System and Siren. Per our insurance policy, the lightning policy will be strictly enforced. We have two sirens that blow when lightning is within our 10-mile radius: one from the clubhouse and one from the turfgrass center. If you hear these sirens, you must stop IMMEDIATELY and seek shelter or return to the clubhouse. Those that do not follow this policy will be asked to leave the Golf Course and not return.

When weather, capable of producing lightning, approaches the area (within 10 miles), all golfers should use extreme caution. If a lightning storm is imminent, the golf staff will sound like a siren. When the siren sounds, all golfers are required to leave the course or seek shelter immediately. Golf carts are not lightning proof. Do not shelter under a tree as they conduct lightning to the ground.

The following disciplinary action will occur for those found golfing during a lightning warning:

  1. Verbal Warning2. No play for two weeks             3. No play for one month

Outside activities may resume when authorized by the Golf Shop staff after 15 minutes have passed since the last lightning strike. Golfers, resuming play, are expected to immediately return to the course at their previous location and resume play. Golfers not abiding by this will lose their position on the course.  Please also note that lightning is difficult to predict and the lack of a siren warning on any occasion is no assurance of safety against lightning. Play is always at your own risk.

New Local Rule – Root & Rock Relief
To help protect players and maintain pace of play, we are introducing the following local rule for regular play:

LCC Root and Rock Rule:
If a player’s ball comes to rest on or near tree roots or rocks that interfere with the player’s stance or intended swing, the player may take free relief. Relief is taken by determining the nearest point of complete relief, no closer to the hole, and dropping within one club length of that point. The ball must be dropped from knee height and come to rest within the relief area.

Note: This rule applies to daily play only and will not be in effect for tournament play.

Out of Bounds – Alternative to Stroke & Distance (Pace of Play)
As a reminder, to help improve pace of play, we are utilizing the Local Rule for Out of Bounds/Lost Ball relief:

When a ball is lost or out of bounds, a player may proceed under this local rule for two penalty strokes instead of returning to play from the previous spot.

  • Identify the ball reference point (where the ball is estimated to be lost or last crossed out of bounds).
  • Identify the fairway reference point (nearest fairway area, not closer to the hole).
  • The relief area is established between these two points and within two club lengths on either side, no closer to the hole.
  • The ball must be dropped in the general area within this defined relief zone.

Once a ball is put in play under this rule, the original ball is no longer in play—even if it is later found.

This option does not apply if:

  • The ball is known or virtually certain to be in a penalty area, or
  • A provisional ball has already been played.

Note: This local rule will not be used in competition or club events.

Member’s Only Logo

For years, we’ve searched for the right “Members Only” logo, something meaningful, something unique, and something that truly represents Ligonier Country Club. We often asked ourselves, What could we do that genuinely reflects who we are or the area around us?

After some digging, we realized that sometimes the perfect timing, and the perfect inspiration, has been right in front of us all along.

This year marks America’s 250th Anniversary, a celebration deeply rooted in the very history that surrounds our Club. Ligonier’s origins are rooted in military history, and when you think of Ligonier, you immediately think of the Fort.

Even more meaningful is the land our course sits on, the former Brandt family farm. The Brandt family was involved in the Revolutionary War, and to this day, Revolutionary-era markings and symbols remain on their family headstones in the cemetery just down the road from the Club.

All of these historic ties led us to the cannon — a symbol that represents strength, heritage, and the deep roots of both our town and our Club.

We are proud to introduce our Members Only Cannon Logo — etched deep with history and meant to be worn proudly.

This logo will be exclusively available to LCC Members. It will not be offered to guests, making it a true representation of membership, belonging and a conversation piece when worn outside the club. A soft drop of items included hoodies, Greyson apparel, key chains, belts and hats have already arrived and a few more to come. We hope you enjoy!
