From the Pro ~ September 2018

We have plenty of great golf still remaining this Fall season, don’t you dare put away those clubs!  The club has chosen not to airify until late October therefore the excuse is removed.  We look forward to those extra rounds and please don’t forget a guest or two.

The State Women’s Pa. Amateur was held at LCC last month and there were many winners that came out of the Championship.  First we had 3 club members that were winners, they were Kristen Obush  State Amateur Champion, Karen Hough the Senior 2nd Flight Winner, and Sheila Kassel the Super Senior Champion.

Volunteer Chair- Woman Melane Baraniak and her cast of VOLUNTEERS did a spectacular job entertaining the Pa. State Ladies Amateur group.  Mrs. Baraniak and her group worked very long hours during the week and went above and beyond the call of duty.  Tom Gessner, Betty & Bill Rosa, Ray Valosik, Bob Swann, Karen Thompson, Marilee Fetkovich, Be Smolleck, Paul Zannotto, Dan McDonald, Peg & Steve Meyers, Corey Riddell, Chris Turner, Terry Slease, Ed and Darlene Elliott, Mark Magda, Ed McLanahan, Barb Sloan, Denise Smail, Becky Demuth, Gayle Smith, Jackie Elliott, Carolyn Morford, Barb Planinsek, Patty Voytek, Kathy Valosik, Peg Mcdonald, Patti Mansfield, Marti Wood, John & Marlene Cavecchio, Merylyn Scribner, Ray Wenk,  and Joe Griffith.  The Staff and Members wish to Thank you all for helping us showcase our wonderful facility and show the hospitable nature of our wonderful Club.

Junior golfers are a very big part of our facility and most of them play High School golf at many different locations, here are some names to watch for in the local paper:  Ligonier Valley Gunnar Elliott, Ryan Jones, Lauren Brandt, Maddie Pierce, Ivan Wieczorek, Jonathon Rankin, Josh and Ryan Harbert.   For the Derry Trojans Aidan and Ryan Bushey. Hunter Jurica, and Bryce Baum.   For the Latrobe Wildcats Mario Battaglia, Jared Stein, Colton McCuthen, Eric Soccio, and Derrick Hytrtanski.  For the Hempfield Spartans Ladies team Raina Jones, and David Binley plays for Avonworth.

Club Championship– dates for this wonderful event is September 15th-16th, and will be broken into Handicap divisions as of the September 1st GHIN posting.  Flights will be made up of handicap divisions according to handicap index and according to the tees you wish to play.  As most of you understand if you choose to play the forward tees you are going to be reduced in handicap accordingly.  The Golf Committee extends the invitation for players to move up tee markers but 10 of your last 20 scores must be from that specific set of tees.

The Junior Club Championship will follow the regular Club tournament on Saturday September 15th, divisions will include both male and female divisions.  The age brackets will be 12-15 and 16-18 and include 9 and 18 holers.  Tee-times will be immediately following the Club Championship.  Sign up in the Golf Shop.

Guest Policy– When bringing a guest to our club please remind them of our policy of dress to alleviate any uncomfortable situations.  As the presenting member you are solely responsible for your guest’s actions during their visit to our facility.

When we think about sharpening the saw we forget that self talk can be the biggest detriment to holding back our ability.  Instead of talking yourself into consequences that tighten up your muscles you can work on your breathing.  Do this drill to lighten yourself up, close your eyes, breath in thru your nose for 5 seconds, hold the breath in for 5 seconds and then blow it out for 4 seconds.  See that helps!
